It is more like 1.7 generations unjustly enriched and of course the effect varies for a given individual depending upon the year of birth.
The young simply can't save plus have a huge HECS debt to further exacerbate the problem. They have mostly given up to the point there will be no home ownership for them unless via inheritance. This is the unfairness this situation has created. The older generations had no HECS as well.
The older generation could do the home buying on one wage with no HECS. This is the unfairness laid bare.
We see the consequences around us more plainly each day.
