Some companies have a policy of Directors being required to purchase shares (eg AMP).
Some directors like to show they have "skin in the game" or were founders of the company and therefore have a high share percentage and icrease their holding regulary.
I believe (anecdotal evidence) that some Directors have all the shareholdings in Managed Trusts and therefore dont show up on registries and/or believe they can be more "objective" if the don't directly own shares and therefore can have an unbiased decision making process.
Personally, not particularly bothered if Directors don't own shares outright and if any of all the above apply to Mayne.
BM and SR both held plenty of shares during their tenure.
