    they don't vote as a party. theres no compulsion for each to vote according to the others. each makes their own decision and this is after consulting with their electorates.

    "they still have to tow the bloc line or lose financial backing ". ..... I admit I may be taking them at their word. but firstly they only received funding from Climate 200 to match the fund-raising they'd achieved in the electorates. they get nothing from Climate 200 after the election and might not receive any funding at all next election. and secondly, no they don't have to toe any line other than the electorate view.

    independent candidates have great difficulty getting cut through mostly because they can't raise enough funds, can't attract a lot of volunteers..... generally.

    this current crop were strongly motivated, had excellent social networks and developed a high profile during the election campaign. they succeeded due to the disgraceful conduct of the incumbent MPs and the govt.

    many independents have been nutters too. which turns off many voters, including myself.
