"This is how NATO membership affects the industrial boom in the north: "We must protect our interests"

Sweden's NATO membership has changed the perspective on how industries should be protected in the future. Major authorities—both in Sweden and the USA—are now keeping an eye on the industrial boom in the north.

The research director from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security visited Talga in Luleå on Wednesday to review the technology available in Norrbotten—and how it can be protected. The director-general of the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) was also present.

Changed Playing Field

The parties, who are developing their bilateral cooperation, discussed during the visit in Norrbotten how to protect the industries that play an important role in the green transition.

In connection with Sweden's NATO membership, the playing field has changed, says MSB’s director-general, Charlotte Petri Gornitzka.

"It is important that Sweden, which has been transparent for so long, now needs to start protecting our own interests," she says.
