This really is highly highly x10^3 speculative stuff. I’ve spent some time looking through some papers some of which you can google the key words at the bottom.

From what I can find the bio hydrogen research is only partially complete and even if by some miracle was completed by BP8 I still have questions over yield after energy expended and waste disposal, which is why they obviously dumped pyrolysis. Furthermore scalability on refinery size, cost vs output or any sort of feasibility is questionable at best. I would want to see results of yield relative to input as a priority, even at lab scale.

I think they have done some research on their own strain for biomedical purposes previously based on the announcement? How did that go? because looking at the Japanese patent it looks like there is value there as far as making supplements and medical treatments.

I am not even going to comment on the heavy metals extraction, that imo is minuscule / practically negligible and I’d fall out of my lounge chair if that cost vs return was positive at scale.

Either way this is the sort of thing I’d have expected from a phd or a company that is reinvesting excessive profits into future proofing itself. I wouldn’t call this investing, I’d call it seed investment at best. I really do question if this isn’t some larger companies science experiment that they buy the IP from the corpse of BP8 at a later date.
