If you care to read MasterStrategist statement @ top of the page, who said quite clearly that landlords are selling up their rental properties because of the cost of holding them and if a landlord is charged double for rates, well that is making it uglier to be a landlord which is encouraging them to sell and from my point of view that is a good thing as I believe that a roof over someone's head should not be treated as an investment.

There are a lot of people coming into Australia with dollars to buy a house and that is a demand issue,I think this is a good thing at the moment as it gives anyone who owns a rental property a chance to get out.

A way to fix the housing issue is to forget about controlling the economy with interest rates as this only hurts people down the bottom and gives more money to the haves.

Instead have a land tax on all residential property & charge it every quarter, if the economy is getting too hot well just lift the land tax, OfCourse they will be means tested and other variances, but this would free up a lot of houses with only 1 or 2 people in it and also let's not forget the 1 million vacant houses that were recorded on the last census.

Sure and that results in a lack of investment to build homes to start with.

Let me ask you this, can you not afford a deposit on a sub $500k house?
