70,000 km in 18 months? How many people do that sort of distance?
That's about 4 times the average mileage done by car owners.

And the comparator vehicle is an "old landcruiser", whose fuel consumption would be double that of an EV-sixed sedan, such as a Toyota Rave 4, for example.

[When they need to resort to that sort of extreme example, which is so far away from being representative of the average situation, then you know it's getting desperate for them.]

Even that $35,000 for 70,000 kms is surely far fetched, 25L/100km or thereabouts on what must be mostly highway type driving ....
