Sigh... to be clear your post said: "Acid wash" (74365635). This is done to improve the skin factor (increasing production [however... you don't want to increase production if there is none to begin with {waste of money}]).
Even if you believe their assumption to be true, you must at the very least admit the pressures were not enough to overcome this.
