I'm a environmentally aware citizen too and I believe that we need to convert to gas in the transition to more sustainable alternatives to coal! Alternative enegry solutions will take 10-20 years to make a large contribution to our energy needs and gas bridges that gap nicely. I'm all for protecting the very productive farmland but surely gas extraction is a far better alternative than the land being dug up for coal mining????

I agree there needs to be a sensible balance.
