The aim of the Greens is to cease using oil, coal, gas and uranium and build no more dams. We will rely on the existing hydro systems, wind and solar to power our grid and vehicles.
The grid will have to supply much more power than currently to supply all those vehicles and replace gas heating.
At night there is no solar and at times no wind. The periods of little or no wind can be for weeks. The hydro power (including pumped) can supply some of the grid for some hours, then we rely on batteries.
The East Coast Grid supplies around 50,000 MW. How many hours of backup should we have battery back up for before the lights go out?
