As I say those sitting on the sidelines saving up their money and earning 5% interest on it are laughing, it may be slow, but that is one of the safest thing one can do with their money, with property investment being the safest imo.

Safest most defensive investments in order IMO.

Property -> Gold (so long as it doesn't get stolen) -> Savings Account and if you really want to play it safe with stocks, just go for one of the XJO indice etfs, there is still a moderate amount risk that it could do a Nikkei and go under for decades, however if all goes well money put into an indice etf like XJO, should be much higher in 30 years.

Small caps are all high risk, large majority of mid caps are also high risk, stocks like GLN, LTR, CNB, and even HC lovechild SUM are all high risk.

All in my opinion.
