Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has voted for a motion calling for Julian Assange to return to Australia almost 15 years after publishing secret US government files on WikiLeaks.

The motion, put forward by independent MP Andrew Wilkie, passed after it was voted for by 86 members of the House including the PM as well as members from the Opposition and the Greens.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton voted against the motion along with 41 others including many colleagues in the Coalition such as deputy leader Sussan Ley and Nationals leader David Littleproud.

Independent Member for Clark, Andrew Wilkie, today successfully moved a motion calling on the House of Representatives to recognise the importance of bringing Julian Assange’s extradition to an end and allowing him to return home. Shamefully the Opposition, except the Member for Bass, Bridget Archer, voted against the motion. The vote marks an unprecedented show of political support for Mr Assange by the Australian Parliament.

Not quite sure where Duttons support was.
