I am unsure about the military connection. Let's not forget Manning was in the military. From the posts I have seen, the hatred directed towards Assange and his supporters (including those of us on HC), is purely political. Dutton and his cronies voted against Assange's release (with one exception) so the vast majority of his sheep will follow without giving the issue a second thought.
A couple of right wingers on here have given the issue a second thought thankfully, and I have gladly acknowledged with an upvote.
The personal attacks by some on others are par for the course in here. I often ask myself, why are certain individuals so angry that they always have to be on the attack. You have suggested that it is a defence mechanism. I believe that it is much much more than that. I think that we know who I am referring to. If not, we soon will.
