We have a justice system which while not perfect is where people make allegations and there is right to defend against untrue accusations. Once sufficient proof enables a verdict the accused becomes the guilty party and faces their sentence.
I think its important to not prejudice a fair trial that we properly investigate before we "believe" or "disbelieve" the story to avoid injustice. Until the accused admits guilt or proof enables a verdict of guilty the accused is not guilty. Even then mistakes occur so there is an appeals process until legal avenues are exhausted.
We need to sentence and punish the guilty perpetrators appropriately.
