depression can indeed be a life-long struggle, a battle that keeps one knocked down for many years. and I truly do understand the desperation for release from a life of such intense misery. and not all people with depression are the same either. its not as simplistic as Amanda Vanstone thinks when she said that people with depression "should just *snap" out of it".
doctors are essential in the assessment of whether a person is treatable for their condition. psychiatrists too of course. the system, again imo, should be safeguarded against abuses. some people with depression should qualify for VAD, but I'm glad its not me that has to make such a decision.
