when I was at school we had to sing the prayer to a god to "save our gracious queen".

Hi Scotty, you and me both know if that was the case you should know then it was not a prayer, it was the national anthem of Australia at the time and we all sang this on parade.

Maybe if you went to some aboriginal community at the wrong time you might be saying to yourself, " god save me".
