STX looks like being removed from the 200 at the September rebalance, so thought I'd check the major S&P/ASX 200 ETFs to see how much STX they actually hold and will need to sell.
The 3 big ones are IOZ, STW and A200 with $15.5B AUM in total (roughly 5Bn each). Of them IOZ holds 7M shares, STW holds 5.7M shares and A200 holds none, so just 12.7M shares in total, nowhere near the number being shorted. Can't see how ETF selling from index exclusion is going to allow them to cover.
