Tom Friedman's heart is more or less in the right place but one wonders if his flip flopping on Iraq is due to trying to back a winner (in Iraq) or rather directed at keeping in with the rabid, anti-Bush NYT editorial position. (Safire and Brooks excepted)
(Those with political smarts will not make fools of themselves by commenting on the election outcome pre the elections. (Then again the sort of characters that inhabit this forum have no shame about making wildly inaccurate stock predictions, despite years of faulty practice, gold comes to mind) There were a lot of red faces and furious editorial efforts at backpedalling and rationalisation after the stunning election turn out in Afghanistan,at least, from the Liberal media in the US. Amongst Iraqis maybe it is not just the terrorists, but also the voters who are prepared to regard their lives a lot more lightly than we in the West do. We will know after Jan 30)
