It put many like me in a position that I can't get any pension or government payments, so it did take many off the government books.
I was on average wages for most of my life and have done well through shares and a SMSF but the fees to super funds last year were around $40 billion and the tax forgone because of super contributions is close to the same amount as the government pension payments, it is a very inefficient way to fund retirement a universal pension would have been better and fair as you pointed out this system reward the rich at a much greater rate than poorer people.
