Patrick my main point is that directors buying shares does not guarantee success. There are only two board members who have not purchased shares (Petrie and Lockwood) who have been board members 18 and 6 months respectively. When they do buy shares in futures ,as is a requirement of board members, it will make no difference to company performance.
As far as our chairman is concerned, I have seen a lot of commentary about his performance on this forum including responsibilty for the Teva acquisition even though he only became a board member in May2018 well after the Teva acquisition and when the share price had already declined to $10. I disagree with your assessment of his chairmanship so far, as soon as he became Chair he undertook a big cleanout of board members (culture change) got rid of CEO and CFO, appointed new executives and disposed of assets setting the company in another path and eliminated the crippling debt we had. He has made some mistakes eg cancelling capital return and it's debatable whether a dividend should have been paid.
The disposal of Metrics ,which you have criticised in the past and are still doing, is baseless in my opinion , the sale fee (I agree was high) but it was not just legal fees they were restructuring fees as well, remember that Metrics had over 400 employees which were all paid severance payments of some sort. And he also achieved $722M for the sale (about $70M more than first indicated) and done 3 months ahead of time.
I am not Blind Freddy or have blind faith in either him or any other board member but if you are going to throw dirt back it up with some evidence.
