northern flankng attack north of Chasiv Yar to avoid a frontal attack (very very difficult to cross the canal , then to attack uphill ) heavy losses led to a russ elite unit needing to be withdrawn due to combat ineffectiveness because of theri low numbers and loss of vehicles
so summarising .....months in to the battle of Chasiv Yar , and russia have made advances towards Chasiv Yar .....have virtually destroyed the city ....but are not even close to taking it with flanking failure and extreme disadvantage geographicaly
