Yes,  nuclear power is and should be the last option for us. It is the most expensive and all around the world is is heavily subsidised by the government..  renewable energy with battery backup is the cheapest most affordable option and it will be reflected in Australian power bills which are by world standards very low already especially if you compare energy costs in Europe for example.
The Australian federal government subsidises the fossil fuel industry by over $13 billion annually. One prime example is our gas that is extracted it sold off with Australia not receiving any profits or any royalties for most of our gas exports. The small exception is Western Australia , bit $14 billion was the amount Australian tax payers subsidised the fossil fuel industry by in the last financial year. This financial year just finished would be even greater
