Re Gold comment from pre-market thread:

I love Gold, but the problem is the strong A$ & weak US$. If the US$ strengthens, then gold is worth more to us. But the anomaly is that if the US$ strengthens, gold usually falls.

On the other hand, Silver has appreciated 40% since mid-year, far exceeding any currency conversion offsets. The anomaly: there are no pure silver mining companies in Australia (AYN hasn't started production yet).
