This is a good start, this battery cost $45 mil and had lengthy delays and cost blowout and stores solar energy for 2 hours from 4 pm and releases it back into the grid 2 hours later.
currently our renewables prices are being subsidised by coal fire power plant. Ie when there is no sun at night solar does very little to keep the power on and give us hot water and power our tv.
the question to ask here is if it rains in broken hill at 4pm, does that makes this $45 mil battery useless?
the facts are for solar to even be part of our energy future. We need battery that can store energy for weeks if not months (what happens when it rain for the whole months?) or we will be sitting in the dark at night without hot water.
this is a good start but much more better batterieswill be needed and rewables energy is only going to get more expensive when we start paying for these batteries and the technology is not there yet.
