I think that there are many people (those who aren’t simply trying to stay alive in the midst of war, famine, poverty and oppression ) who can see that things are badly awry. The great proportion of people then just get on with living because they don’t see themselves as being able to do much. They make their lives work the best way they can for better or worse

in the midst of chaos there are always those who think they have the answer and someone who thinks they have the ability to sort it out. I can’t think in history that has been a painless answer
but in history plenty of people have put their faith in charlatans, warlords and cocky individuals who promise the world.

we have prophets and seers and futurists and a myriad of nameless who think they can see the future and it is seldom one of hope and tranquility. The beast, the antichrist, the end of times are writ large because we cannot otherwise see our way out of chaos. The new messiah is both a warning and a hope.

this will unfold as it will and though that sounds hopelessly fatalistic everyone seems to me to be making their choices and n the basis of what they believe will improve things.
