    Yeah, they wanted a national ID card. People protested & the government backed down.

    Then, the government said "screw you guys, you now need a photo ID card as your driver's licence." Because before then, your driver's licence was a piece of paper.

    Your driver's licence is a form of national ID card, every state has one & you're in the system.
