Thanks, Trees for the info and concern. We haven't got much scope to experiment because our dog's skin deteriorates quickly when off the medication, and then it takes a long time to recover. We had tried a lot of remedies including homoeopathic ones before finding the current one that works. She is now old for a bulldog but has been so much better on the medication - behaving like a puppy again - that we are reluctant to try to fix something that has been fixed.
