oh I don't see Trump as tribal.... a gross narcissist has only one tribe in mind. and that tribe has only one member.
I doubt Trump is even concerned with any legacy he might leave, its all about his own personal profile and his wealth.
the US has been remarkable for its empire of vassal territories. strategic sites dotted around the world to ensure they have military dominance. this has, imo, triggered China to follow suit. US empire territory impinging on China's claims of sovereign territories in the Sth China Sea and Pacific is more vital than Taiwan, more dangerous as these sires are loaded guns.
this is a far bigger matter than Trump's ascendancy (again) to potus.
