@tangs I am not sure how relevant this is to the present discussion, because I consider Trump altogether a lightweight - yes, he has clout because he manages to harness the ire and disappointment of the 'disaffected' of America - and factory jobs etc. have been outsourced from the working classes of America to China - and the rest of the Western World is experiencing similar - (to which there is a simple answer: don't buy anything made in China, but easier said than done!) - better just to reduce our needs as 'consumers' generally, which would do 'the world' a lot of good.

I do have a good friend who has some Slavic background, speaks a Slavic language - and constantly badgers me with pro-Putin, anti-American messages - I always tell him, we have differing opinions on that, but he won't let up. Listens to programs in Serbian, or similar-sounding languages - has only experienced WWII from hearsay etc.
The comparison with Trump is now this: this man has some Slavic DNA, understands the language etc. - both of Trump's wives (the former and now deceased Mrs Trump came from Zlin county, now in Slovakija, former Czechoslovakija - the present one is from Slovenija, moreover, her parents have moved over to the United States when their grandson was born - they may no longer live there, but were there long enough to stir up some sympanthies for Putin) - I am not entirely out of sympanthy with Putin, he had some good reason to suspect that the 'West' was encroaching on his borders - but nothing that good negotiations wouldn't have solved. He wants to be a hero to his own people - it's as simple as that.

I believe Trump is a security risk for the reasons/ or rather suspicions outlined above. He has shown that he is impressed with Putin. This should be stressed - it is close to treason to the principles the United States stands for.
