I'm not so sure we'll get the same sort of annoucement cycle with PL5. The objectives of PL5 were not clearly explained, but they did say they weren't specifically chasing improved performance.

So IMO they are either looking at the effectiveness of some process tweaks with the aim of improving quality (ie. better consistency and/or yield) or some process modifications that they feel they need to assess before taking the node size down to 20nm.

It's probably a bit of column A, a bit of column B, especially considering PL6 was originally intended to commence before PL5 had finished.
