Abbott said that the science of climate change was crap at a meeting in Beaufort Victoria on September 30, 2009. He later qualified his statement by saying that it was not his "Considered position," and that his remarks were in the context of a "fiery debate." His backing away from his statements on climate change were the precursor to his 7:30 Report interview where he said that his statements should only be taken seriously when he is reading from a carefully prepared script.
