    A few electricity buy/sell prices:

    - Electricity retailers (Energy Aust, Origin etc) pay about 8c per kwh for coal/gas electricity.

    - They charge households currently about 17c/kwh for electicity here in NSW. (I'll presume it's the same in Victoria.)

    - Household Solar PV costs about 22c / kwh to produce (expected to fall substantially over time for new instalations). Various feed in tarrifs apply, with NSW being the lowest at 20c/kwh.

    - Households currently pay about 17c/kwh for their electicity here in NSW. I'll presume it's the same in Victoria.

So Origin is being generous paying - say - 17c/kwh for Bluegen feed in tarrif. Even though they save on the cost of the additional transmission needed now, I can't see them making money charging the end user what they charge their supplier. Not possible.

I'd say there is a trial/PR exercise in place here.

If the cost of coal/gas electricity can be increases by a carbon tax, if the price of producing electricity/heat for a bluegen (BG) unit can be reduced (see recent posts re CFU), or if a gov mandated feed in tarrif, CFU starts to look better in Australia. Of course, there are legislated feed in tarrifs for BG electricity in Germany and Britain.

Anyone know the price differentials there?
