You want to hear it, I'm forced to listen. OK, I'm not forced, I can leave if I want to (and sometimes I do... but then I come back).
If someone comes in spouting some holocaust denial or the reptilian conspiracy theory, will you want to hear that too? There's more information in the world than any one brain can handle, a filter is a good thing. Also, the amount of disinformation propagated by Russia and others on an industrial scale is just not healthy.
If you don't mind a long read, I recommend the cover story from The Atlantic in May, helpfully reproduced by the author and liberated from the paywall.
