I wish I could agree with you TTroy but I don't.
Are you forgetting that Kalgoolie was built because the Malaysian government refused to allow half of the LAMP to continue operations??
The cracking & leaching/ most expensive part to replicate. The best part of a billion bucks later Malaysia turned all lovey dovey again and allow all operations at LAMP to continue. Leading of course to massive overcapacity in that 1 part of the processing.
Of course in the early days Condisoil (Lynas waste gypsum plus organics) was the agreed disposal method for the mildly radioactive waste stream.
All agreed, tested as safe and effective by both IAEA and Malaysian govt reviews (funded by Lynas of course) then abruptly shut down. They even banned any further research on the stuff. About $150m later we have a completely unneeded permanent storage facility that will no doubt need expansion down the track.
Then of course there's the farce where the LAMP was licensed with an approved nameplate capacity and the Govt subsequently limited its operations by limiting the amount of concentrate they could import.
Currently the C&L at the LAMP is licensed for a while yet (to March 26 if I recall correctly). After that, who knows? Most likely they're OK.
Anyone suggesting that the LAMP hasn't been severely compromised by politics in the past or that I couldn't happen in the future is dreaming.
Pro Lynas or not, let's recognise some difficult realities of their situation.
