My guess is that the reason for the prolonged tdg halt is simply that there is a lot of horse tdg going on. RBS trying to get the best possible deal on the extension and AEZ trying their hardest to negotiate a better deal.
I hope my optimism (and yours) is proved right. This is a very risky play. We will either do very well out of this or we are going see our guavas.
