If she is wearing a burka how can the policeman see what colour she is! He can't possibly be racist!

The way I see it, on a personal level, I find the burka offensive.

On a more objective level, the way I see it is that society has certain standards. We have set a standard on the MINIMUM amount of clothing a woman may wear. I can't just rock up to my consulting job in a pair of knickers for example.

So, following this line of thought it seems acceptable to me that we can demand a standard on the MAXIMUM amount of clothing a woman may wear. And the burka exceeds it.

And before people argue that it is a 'religious' or 'cultural' right.... I am quite sure there are still tribes around the world where the women go topless. I really can't imagine anyone rushing to defend their cultural or religious right should they choose to walk down Collins Street in their hula skirt and nothing else!

So you can see that we have hypocrisy going on here.

Ban the Burka and keep it simple.
