Year 1 - Bursting with optimism. Pushing hard with enthusiasm.
Year 2 - Slowing. Gee this is not as easy as first thought. Never the less I'm earning a fortune so press on.
Year 3 - Slowing again. Enthusiasm waning. Getting bloody hard now but no pressure from the board so ok.
Year 4 - More and more pressure from SH but who cares about that lot. Still no pressure from the board so I reckon I can last another year and keep getting the salary. After that I will leave with a tidy bank balance and move onto something else.
He is not alone with this scenario. High percentage of directors & CEO's doing it at a lot of companies.
