Ontario’s largest hospital network finally DROPS staff vax mandatesIt was a long time coming — three years after rolling out its nonsensical COVID-19 vaccine mandates for staff, the University Health Network (UHN), one of Canada's largest health research organizations, has finally rescinded the policy.
The origins of that policy date back to a directive issued by Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kieran Moore, on August 17 and implemented province-wide on September 7, 2021.
But while it officially ended in March 2022, UHN opted to keep its mandates in place despite the obvious strain it put on hospitals, as countless unvaxxed health-care workers retired, quit, or were placed on leave for refusing to comply.
Did UHN finally come to its senses (and find its moral compass)?Magical new science appeared, and all of a sudden, the fundamental right of autonomy to make voluntary informed decisions about one's health was restored.
(Surprisingly, some hospitals in Ontario continue to ignore mounting evidence and are still enforcing mask mandates without evidenced-based justification for their effectiveness in reducing transmission.)
It looks like at least some sanity has returned to Ontario hospitals.
But the question remains: what guarantees do we have that these policies are gone for good?
