hmmm well that is an an extremely contorted argument. To keep peace after destabilization... this was an American modus operadi back in the 60's. UN hasn't recognized Crimea as part of Russia.Crimea:

Both were illegal in the eyes of the UN. Putin was getting away with it, because no one felt the risk of enforcement was worthwhile, poor Ukraine was left alone. This is what happens when you stand back and give into criminal activity, it gets worse.
