I think when you talk about and compare hybrid vs ICE vs EV you really need to understand that a hybrid is very different to a plug-in Hybrid.

A hybrid has a tiny battery which charges only when the car is driving and is only used to get the car moving from a standstill to approx walking pace after which the ICE starts and the car drives using the petrol engine.

A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) has a larger battery (approx 18kWh in a Volvo XC60 Recharge) and can drive in pure electric mode for up to 60km. It charges with a cable plugged into a 10A socket but can (depending on the mode selected) also charge whilst being driven on the ICE and also has regenerative charging when braking or coasting downhill. When battery power runs out (and also when accelerating hard) the ICE seamlessly chimes in. In fact sometime you can’t tell whether you are driving on battery or ICE without looking at the dash. Very high tech and very different to a plain old hybrid.
