The US car industry is far from dead. Look no further than Tesla if you need evidence of that. The USA produced over 13m vehicles last year; more than the entire EU did (~12m). The US population is 334m vs 448m in the EU, meaning the USA builds more vehicles per capita than the EU does. China produced about 30m vehicles last year for a population of 1.4b, meaning the US has them beat too on per capita vehicle production.
