IMO the unusual aspect of this (US promising to bring an end
to Nord Stream and that being subsequently executed, is that
Russia has not responded in kind by taking out western international
undersea communication cables.

Perhaps Russia/China has already got a plan for them
in the event of this war escalating (as well as the Western Sat. Communication systems)
and they don't want to show their hand at this stage?
