I thought I had explained it fairly clearly. My point is that the word "frac" is not slang. It is in everyday use in the mining and petroleum industries. It is derived from the French word for a stick of explosives, which is "fracture". So a stick of fracture is used to "frac" rock when mining. A slang word is defined as: very informal usage in vocabulary and idiom that is characteristically more metaphorical, playful, elliptical, vivid, and ephemeral than ordinary language. "Frac" is very basic technical parlance and not slang.
