Some companies have consolidation are because their share price are keep falling. If they have consolidation the share price may temporarily shot up and that may make the price chart looks a little bit nicer to some people. But in the long term it will still keep falling due to the deteriorating fundamental. I think this is why some people have negative experience about it.
But this is not the case for SDL..
FMG on the other hand had share split because they were afraid that the high share price may look daunting to some investors
