It obviously does work.
War is a bit different because the situations we observe are almost always a few stragglers or a lone vehicle.
Likely by now any unit with the capacity to defeat drones was simply killed first, as you would expect. They stop drones not bullets or missiles or other projectiles.
Fixed infrastructure has a similar issue, will be destroyed by any missile or other.
