Observation to this emerging thread of discussion

I think most non democratic/dictatorial societies like Russia and China can be easily viewed on the surface as OK places to live, structured, clean, controlled. law and order etc

But the problems are not on the surface

I remember a great quote from a senior authority in one of those countries (I wish I could remember who said it)

It went along the lines off

"Off course you have the freedom of speech in our country - you can speak out at any time about any issue - we just can't guarantee your freedom and outcomes after you speak"

So if you are happy living under Xi or Putin and never complain, never speaking out, do what you're told and always toeing the line - it probably suits you perfectly.

I have a few mates who seem adamant Xi/Putin have it all worked out and that those societies are just so much better than "failed democracy" - they are robust in their arguments to same

The one recurring flaw seems to be when I ask them why - if they are so convinced in their view - they don't move to Russia or similar - then all of a sudden they have 100 reasons why they can't do same

Seems to me that the youtubers and social media warriors are the same as my vocal mates - they love to trumpet about how amazing "authoritarianism" is - but I don't see a single one of them packing a bag and moving.
