You raise an important point, humpy8000. I was talking to a MST staffer at their booth at the recent LWC, and I gained the impression that MST was going for the 'firepower' end of the market with the 3GL. My impression was that the lower firepower (single shot grenade launchers) were a separate market segment because such weapons are lighter in weight and therefore perhaps favoured by some for long patrol hikes. On the other hand, if a scrap emerges, then the increased firepower of the 3GL could conceivably make or break what happens next. I don't know the mechanics of fitting out patrols, but presumably a mix n match assembly of weaponry is feasible or perhaps normal?
Can you (or someone) provide more detail about the Thales contract? I haven't been able to get to it, and may be right off the mark, but is this for a single shot grenade launcher? Is it likely (or unhelpful speculation) that the above impression of market segments has validity?
My logical take is that it appears to be some sort of setback if MST has to wait 3-5 years or whatever for any prospect of an ADF contract? But if the 'impression' of market segments was valid, then perhaps there is scope for something a bit sooner after all?
