You may be right; only time will tell.
The holy grail of hydrogen as a transportation fuel has led to much development in spite of the hurdles that you have outlined. However giants such as MHI are also aware of the problems and obviously feel continued development is both worthwhile and possible.
Just as the problems of methane pyrolysis, which had been put in the too hard basket for decades is now being pursued by many, including Hazer, are being solved, solutions will be found. Again, only time will tell.
