Just because someone doesn't wear a hijab etc doesn't mean they aren't Muslims.
Seems like you were suffering from a touch of ignorance.
Used to live & work in the UK, including for a company that had Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus & Jews working for it. Everyone got on really well & professionally, you couldn't pick who followed what religion by looking at them.
