Interesting observation mjp2. Last week I was curious as to how the barge carrying quantities have tracked over time with respect to the quarterlies. Assuming I haven't blundered the count, from the Jun qtr, according to qships, there were 365 barge movements with 1.42 MWMT shipped for the quarter. This implies a rate of ~7,800 t/barge. In the Sep qtr of 23 we did 1.6 MWMT at 471 barge movements for a rate of ~6,800 t/barge. This quarter has seen the rate closer to the 5,800-6,000/barge mark.
Number of factors could impact the optimal tonnage on each barge - no doubt weather and bottlenecks at different stages in the loading chain. Would be nice to get some clarity on this to better understand exactly where the bottlenecks are currently present and how these are seasonally influenced.
